Dietary Insights and Nutritional Education in Adults on GLP-1 Therapy (DINE-GLP1) Study

GLP-1 medications, like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro, are increasingly prescribed to help manage weight and type 2 diabetes. They work by reducing appetite and helping people feel full, which can lead to significant weight loss. But long-term improvements in health often require ongoing changes to diet and lifestyle.

The DINE-GLP1 study explores how people’s eating habits and overall health change while taking GLP-1 medications, and how we can best support healthy dietary habits. People on GLP-1 medications might not be eating a high-quality diet so the aim of the DINE-GLP1 program is to help you eat the right foods while you lose weight. Note that the GLP-1 medication itself is not the focus of this study. Participants will use their medication as prescribed by their healthcare provider.

Are you currently taking GLP-1 medication? Complete our eligibility screener to see if you qualify for our 6-week mobile Nutritional Education intervention.

Participate

If you have been prescribed a GLP-1 medication and have been taking it for at least 4 weeks, you can join this 6-week study. We will examine changes in your diet and experiences with the GLP-1 medication before and after a 6-week mobile health (mHealth) intervention aiming to help you improve the quality of your diet. You will also be invited to a single 30-minute interview about your experience with GLP-1 and the mHealth intervention. We want to learn how easy or challenging it was to take the GLP-1 medication, any side effects, and how the mHealth program was helpful in supporting your healthy eating. Complete our eligibility screener to see if you qualify.

Key Features of the DINE-GLP1 Study

Research lead and conducted by researchers at the University of South Carolina, at the Behavioral Research in Eating Lab (About | BRIE Lab):  We research innovative ways to help people eat healthier, lose weight, and prevent chronic disease using emerging technologies and dietary approaches. Our work explores health, digital self-monitoring, and nutrient-rich  diets to support lasting health behavior change.

Convenient Remote Participation:  Join from the comfort of your home. No in-person visits are required.

Intervention: Immerse yourself in an engaging and interactive 6-week intervention delivered seamlessly through the SWITCH app. Experience a dynamic online environment that fosters active participation and encourages positive behavior change.

Targeted Audience: We are seeking approximately 50 adult volunteers with obesity and/or type 2 diabetes (T2DM) who are currently taking GLP-1 medications for at least the past 4 weeks.

Incentives

As a token of our appreciation, participants will receive up to $50 in gift cards for completing their end of the study assessment.
